Bio:
Kṣitigarbha, a bodhisattva revered in East Asian Buddhism, is often depicted as a Buddhist monk. His name can be translated into various versions, such as "Earth Treasury," "Earth Store," "Earth Matrix," or "Earth Womb."
Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha took a great vow to guide all living beings from hell and refused to achieve Buddhahood until all hells were emptied.
This noble commitment has earned him the title of the bodhisattva of hell-beings. Moreover, in Japanese culture, he is regarded as the guardian of children and the patron deity of deceased children and aborted fetuses.
Typically portrayed as a serene monk with a halo encircling his shaved head, Kṣitigarbha carries a staff to forcibly open the gates of hell and a wish-fulfilling jewel that illuminates the darkness.
